Online tech forums ran rampant with speculations before Apple’s October 30 Special Event in Brooklyn. A new MacBook? New iPads? Maybe even new AirPods? Well, Tim Cook and Co. delivered, with a few pleasant surprises along the way. Let’s recap Apple’s new offerings.
New tablets, computers, and laptops at the Apple October Event.
Apple’s thinnest and lightest notebook finally gets a highly anticipated refresh. A new 13.3” Retina display with two USB-C ports, Touch ID, and T2 chip are standard. The base model ships with 8GB of RAM and a 128GB solid-state drive (SSD) for $1,199 and is expandable up to 16GB of RAM and a 1.5TB SSD. The best news? It’s available now.
Available November 7, the new $799 Mac Mini packs a healthy punch. Four Thunderbolt 3 ports, HDMI, and two USB-A ports allow for speedy connectivity to just about any device. The base model ships with an i3 processor, 8GB of RAM and 128GB of SSD space, but the expansion capabilities are incredible. The Mac Mini will be available with up to 64GB of RAM, 4.2GHz i7 processor, and a 2TB SSD. The price on this maxed-out configuration hasn’t been announced.
The star of the show, the new iPad Pro, available in 12.9” ($999 base) and 11” ($799 base) configurations, is actually smaller than the previous generation, but with more screen space, thanks to the new edge-to-edge Liquid Retina display. With no home button, FaceID is now the standard for all iOS devices. The A12X Bionic chipset is “ridiculously fast,” according to Cook, and can handle multi-tasking, photo editing, and even graphic-intense gaming easily. The new iPad Pro is actually faster than 92% of all portable PCs sold in the last year. With 1TB of storage available, a redesigned Smart Keyboard Folio, and the second-generation Apple Pencil, it seems that Apple listened to their users. A 10-hour battery life and USB-C charging allows you to charge other devices, such as your iPhone, straight from the iPad, and still work all day. This really does seem to be the best iPad yet. Pre-orders are available now, and the device will be available November 7.
2018 comes to a close with a new iPhone, iPad Pro, MacBook Air, and Mac Mini. No matter how you work, there’s a new Apple device for you. If you’re looking to upgrade your device or surprise someone for the holidays, check out Apple!
